불기 2570년.
적토마(赤兎馬)의 기운이 두륜산 자락을 힘차게 달리는 새해, 대흥사 마당에는 차향과 국물의 김이 함께 피어올랐다.

겨울의 찬 기운을 밀어내듯, 사람과 사람 사이로 따뜻한 온기가 번져 갔다. 이날 나눔의 현장은 어느 해보다 풍성했다.

초의차보전회가 정성껏 준비한 차 봉사는 수행의 향기를 전하며 얼어 있던 손과 마음을 녹였고, 된장 500여 개는 한 해 살림을 든든히 보태는 생활 속 공덕으로 군민들에게 전해졌다.

여기에 바다의 생명력을 품은 메생이 떡국이 더해지며, 산과 들, 바다의 은혜가 한 그릇에 고스란히 담겼다.

법상 주지스님은 인사말에서 “군민이 통합해 화목하면 부처님의 선물이 더 크게 내려온다.”고 말했다.

분노의 등불을 내려놓고, 지혜와 자비의 등불을 들자는 이 한마디는 수행의 가르침을 넘어, 오늘의 해남이 붙들어야 할 공동체의 약속으로 깊게 울렸다.

박지원 의원은 새해 덕담을 통해 “대흥사가 있기에 해남이 잘 된다.”며, 지역의 뿌리와 미래가 수행의 토대 위에서 자라나고 있음을 강조했다.

이개오 의원은 불교전각회 회원으로서 “대흥사는 한국 불교사의 대표적인 수행처이며, 초의선사의 다맥이 오늘의 차 봉사로 이어지고 있다.”고 말하며, 법상스님과 봉사자들에게 깊은 감사를 전했다.

명현관 해남군수는 인사에서 “해남에 천지가 개벽할 일이 시작되고 있다.”고 밝혔다.
그는 AI 농업, 생명과 과학을 중심으로 한 도시, 그리고 100년의 미래를 준비하는 해남을 약속하며, 김영록 전남지사의 노고에도 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

아울러 군민이 하나로 통합될 때 해남의 변화는 더욱 커질 것임을 강조했다.

군의회를 대표해 이성옥 의장은 “나눔의 현장이 곧 행정의 출발점”이라며, 현장에서 답을 찾는 의정 활동의 중요성을 분명히 했다.

이 모든 나눔의 중심에는 다시 대흥사가 있었다.

차향으로 마음을 맑히고, 된장으로 삶을 잇고, 메생이 떡국으로 몸을 데우는 하루. 그 하루는 단순한 행사가 아니라, 해남의 내일을 밝히는 작은 등불이었다.

부처님의 가피가 해남·완도·진도, 그리고 대한민국에 내리기를.

적토마의 기운을 받아, 나눔에서 시작해 미래로 달려가는 해남의 새해가 이렇게 열리고 있었다.

When the Energy of the Red Steed Opens Heaven and Earth
**A Cup of Tea, a Bowl of Rice Cake Soup, and a Jar of Soybean Paste—
Carrying the Hope of Haenam’s Next 100 Years**
Buddhist Year 2570.
As the energy of the Red Steed (赤兎馬) gallops powerfully along the ridges of Duryun Mountain in the New Year, the courtyard of Daeheungsa Temple filled with the fragrance of tea and the rising steam of warm soup.
As if pushing back the cold grip of winter, a gentle warmth spread from person to person. This year’s sharing event was richer than ever.
The tea service carefully prepared by the Choui Tea Preservation Society carried the scent of spiritual practice, melting frozen hands and hearts alike. More than 500 jars of soybean paste were shared, becoming a living act of merit that would sustain households throughout the year.
Added to this was maesaengi rice cake soup, brimming with the vitality of the sea. In a single bowl came together the blessings of mountain, field, and ocean.
In his greeting, Venerable Beopsang, the abbot, said,
“When the people are united and live in harmony, the Buddha’s gifts descend in even greater measure.”
His words—to set down the lamp of anger and lift the lamp of wisdom and compassion—resonated deeply, transcending spiritual teaching to become a solemn promise the Haenam community must now uphold.
Assemblyman Park Ji-won, in his New Year’s message, remarked,
“Haenam prospers because Daeheungsa is here,”
underscoring that the region’s roots and future continue to grow upon a foundation of spiritual practice.
Assemblyman Lee Gae-oh, a member of the Buddhist Shrine Association, noted,
“Daeheungsa is one of the foremost centers of Buddhist practice in Korean history, and the tea lineage of Master Choui lives on today through this very act of service,”
expressing heartfelt gratitude to Venerable Beopsang and all the volunteers.
Haenam County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan stated in his address,
“A moment of great transformation—when heaven and earth open anew—has begun for Haenam.”
He pledged to build Haenam into a city centered on AI-driven agriculture, life sciences, and technology, preparing for the next 100 years, while also expressing gratitude for the efforts of Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok. He emphasized that Haenam’s transformation would be even greater when its people stand united as one.
Representing the County Council, Chairperson Lee Seong-ok declared,
“The place of sharing is the true starting point of administration,”
reaffirming the importance of governance that finds its answers in the field.
At the heart of all this giving stood Daeheungsa once again.
A day that cleared the mind with tea, sustained life with soybean paste, and warmed the body with maesaengi rice cake soup. It was not merely an event, but a small lantern illuminating Haenam’s tomorrow.
May the Buddha’s blessing descend upon Haenam, Wando, Jindo, and the Republic of Korea.
Thus, under the energy of the Red Steed, Haenam’s New Year—beginning with sharing and racing toward the future—quietly and resolutely unfolded.
