“화물차·음주운전, 더는 용납 없다”

진도경찰서가 교통사망사고 예방을 위한 현장 중심의 선제 대응에 나섰다.

진도경찰서(서장 황동석)는 26일 오전 11시, 진도읍 아리랑 회전교차로 일원에서 교통연수원, 진도군청, 녹색어머니회, 모범운전자회 등 치안파트너 및 유관기관과 함께 합동 교통사고 예방 캠페인을 실시했다.

이번 캠페인은 최근 관내에서 발생하고 있는 화물차 교통사고와 보행자 사고를 사전에 차단하기 위한 현장 중심 예방 활동으로, 경찰과 교통연수원, 진도군청, 녹색어머니회, 모범운전자회 등이 함께 참여해 민·관 협력의 실효성을 높였다.

이날 참여 기관들은 운전자들을 대상으로 화물차 교통사망사고 예방, 안전띠 착용 생활화, 보행자 보호 의무 준수 등을 집중 홍보했으며, 특히 2026년부터 강화되는 음주운전 관련 도로교통법 개정 내용에 대한 안내를 병행했다.

개정 내용에는 약물운전 처벌 강화, 음주운전 방지장치 의무화 확대 등 운전자 책임을 대폭 강화하는 제도가 포함돼 있어, 현장에서 운전자들의 높은 관심을 끌었다.

진도경찰은 최근 빈번하게 발생하는 화물차 교통사망사고를 ‘사고 이후 대응’이 아닌 ‘사고 이전 차단’의 관점에서 접근하고 있으며, 안전띠 착용과 같은 기본 수칙을 일상화하는 것이 생명 보호의 출발점이라는 점을 강조했다.

이러한 예방 중심 홍보 활동은 현장 군민들로부터 큰 호응을 얻었다.
황동석 진도경찰서장은 “교통사고 없는 진도를 만드는 것이 경찰의 가장 중요한 책무”라며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 여러 유관기관과의 긴밀한 협업을 통해 군민이 체감할 수 있는 안전한 교통 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

진도경찰서는 향후에도 회전교차로, 사고 다발 지점, 통학로 등을 중심으로 지속적인 현장 캠페인과 맞춤형 교통안전 활동을 이어갈 방침이다.

**“No More Tolerance for Truck and Drunk Driving”
Jindo Police Launch All-Out ‘Zero Traffic Accidents’ Campaign at Roundabout**
The Jindo Police have launched proactive, on-site measures to prevent fatal traffic accidents.
Jindo Police Station (Chief Hwang Dong-seok) conducted a joint traffic accident prevention campaign at 11:00 a.m. on the 26th at the Arirang Roundabout in Jindo-eup, together with public safety partners and related organizations, including the Traffic Training Institute, Jindo County Office, the Green Mothers Association, and the Model Drivers Association.
This campaign was a field-oriented preventive initiative aimed at preemptively reducing recent truck-related traffic accidents and pedestrian accidents in the area. The joint participation of the police, the Traffic Training Institute, Jindo County Office, the Green Mothers Association, and the Model Drivers Association enhanced the effectiveness of public–private cooperation.
During the campaign, participating organizations focused on raising awareness among drivers about preventing fatal truck accidents, making seatbelt use a daily habit, and complying with pedestrian right-of-way obligations. In particular, they also actively promoted information on revisions to the Road Traffic Act related to drunk driving, which will be strengthened starting in 2026.
The revised law includes stronger penalties for drug-impaired driving and expanded mandatory installation of drunk-driving prevention devices, significantly increasing driver accountability. These measures attracted strong interest from drivers at the scene.
The Jindo Police emphasized that their response to the recent rise in fatal truck accidents is based on preventing accidents before they occur, rather than responding after the fact. They stressed that making basic safety practices—such as wearing seatbelts—a routine habit is the starting point for protecting lives.
These prevention-focused outreach efforts were met with a strong positive response from local residents.
Chief Hwang Dong-seok stated,
“Creating a Jindo without traffic accidents is the police’s most important responsibility,” adding,
“We will continue to work closely with the local community and related organizations to build a safe traffic environment that residents can truly feel and trust.”
The Jindo Police plan to continue ongoing on-site campaigns and customized traffic safety activities, focusing on roundabouts, accident-prone areas, and school zones.
